winget

The package jmrplens.arcane-mcp in the Windows Package Manager’s community repository (microsoft/winget-pkgs) is a portable package: winget downloads the raw release executable for your CPU, checks its SHA-256, and makes it available as the arcane-mcp command. The release workflow submits every stable release as a pull request; it becomes installable once Microsoft’s reviewers merge it, which can take a few days. Nothing is published until the first release, and the first version is submitted by hand; see Installation.

Requirements

Windows 10 or 11 with winget (the App Installer), on x64 or arm64.

Install

winget install --id jmrplens.arcane-mcp -e
arcane-mcp --version

-e (--exact) matches the ID exactly. A portable package is installed per user under %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\WinGet\Packages, and winget puts an arcane-mcp link in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\WinGet\Links, which it adds to your PATH; open a new terminal for the change to apply.

Configure your client

A client started before the install, or one that does not read the user PATH, may not find arcane-mcp; then give it the link’s full path (if that file is not there, where.exe arcane-mcp prints the path):

Pin a version

winget-pkgs keeps every version, backports included. Install a given one with --version, and keep winget upgrade --all away from it with a pin:

Verify it

winget checks the download against the SHA-256 in the manifest, which the release workflow wrote from the release’s signed checksums.txt. The installed executable is the release asset byte for byte, so gh attestation verify on it and the other checks under Verifying a release apply.

Upgrade and uninstall

The binary never updates itself; winget does.
